MNC Event: The Design Explorer: A new program to optimize fMRI experimental design
Dustin Moraczewski
Graduate Student, NACS program, member of Dr. Redcay's DSCN Lab and Former MNC GA, University of Maryland
Do you stress over stimulus timing? Do you cringe at collinearity? Are you nauseated by the normalized standard error of your beta estimates? Are you very afraid of variance inflation factor?
It is well known that issues with stimulus timing can jeopardize statistical analysis in an fMRI experiment. Previous approaches to defining a jittered ITI distribution in order to directly disentangle multiple conditions has been cumbersome at best. In this presentation, Dustin will release the new fMRI Design Explorer - a program to minimize the existential dread of experimental design!
The Design Explorer can define and configure events, optimize trial order and randomized distributions, visualize the BOLD signal and stimulus-specific signal, and simulate BOLD signal based on your stimulus timing, condition-specific beta values, and added noise. In addition to the positively practical applications of this program, Dustin will distribute an educational workbook to help research assistants and students become more familiar with the BOLD signal and fMRI experimental design.
No longer will you cower at creating a new fMRI experiment!
