Nan Jiang received his Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching from the University of Arizona in 1998. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychology at Penn State University in 1998-1999, and taught at Auburn University and Georgia State University before joining the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at UMD as an associate professor of SLA.
